Officers

Howard Weinberg (President) is serving his second term and fifth year as President of the NYFVC. He is an independent TV producer/writer/director and script doctor who has created significant PBS programming: The MacNeil/Lehrer Report, Listening to America with Bill Moyers, and three Project Literacy, U.S. specials. He teaches documentary film history and strategy at NYU’s Graduate Journalism Program, and has taught production at Dartmouth and Columbia. A former producer at CBS News Sunday Morning and Sixty Minutes, Howard has been honored with Emmy, Peabody and Polk awards. Elected to the Board of Governors of the New York Chapter of the Television Academy, he is currently Senior Producer for Special Projects at CUNY-TV.

Josie Dean (Vice-President) a former Vice-President and Treasurer of the NYFVC, is an award-winning independent documentary filmmaker, producing programs for PBS and cable about families (Joint Custody: A New Kind of Family), housing (The Rebuilding of Mascot Flats) and other social issues. She works as a media production consultant in the education and health care fields, teaches media literacy and video production, and is a long-time member of New Day Films distribution coop.

Tanja Meding (Treasurer) is a producer at Maysles Films where she works with legendary cameraman and filmmaker Albert Maysles. Before moving to New York in 2003, Tanja worked in the film industry in her native Germany. She began her career in 1996 with the Munich-Berlin based media company TiMe. Between 1998 and 2003 she was the associate producer for a world-traveled short feature collection at ZIEGLER FILM, Berlin.

Ingrid Scheib-Rothbart (Secretary) was president of the Council from 1997 to 1999 and is a freelance programmer and liaison for German film. From 1975 to 1995, she was film program coordinator at the Goethe House New York/ German Cultural Center. She has served as juror to several film festivals, among them the International Berlin Film Festival.
