Members Sam Bryan is a teacher and filmmaker. He teaches film courses at Pratt Institute (Brooklyn); continues as executive director of International Film Foundation; and is manager of the Julien Bryan Film Archive. He returns to the NYFC board after more than twenty years. Donna Cameron currently teaches at New York University. She was included in the MoMA's 20th century retrospective of visual art, MoMA 2000: Making Choices Part 2 in June 2000, and the 20th century retrospective on women in film, The Color of Ritual, The Color of Thought: Women in Avante-Garde Film in America, 1944-2000, at The Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, in September 2000. Carole Chazin is a director/producer of video, films and stage productions. She is currently a member of New York Women in Film and Television, a board member of Classic Stage Company, and is the New York chair of Thomas Jefferson’s retreat, Poplar Forest Restoration in Forest, Virginia. Diana Devlin is a former board member and development director of the NYFVC. An independent film producer, she inaugurated the NYFVC’s annual ShortFest, with Bill Sloan, at the Museum of Modern Art for the Council’s fiftieth anniversary celebration. Ryan Krivoshey is Director of Distribution at the Cinema Guild, a leading distributor of documentary, foreign, and independent film. Mr. Krivoshey oversees the company’s theatrical, television, home video, and non-theatrical operations. Since coming aboard in 2002, the Cinema Guild has released acclaimed films like Benoit Jacquot’s “A Tout de Suite” and Emmanuel Carrere’s “La Moustache,” and acquired award-winning documentaries, such as “The Blood of Yingzhou District,” winner of the 2007 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject. Previously, Mr. Krivoshey worked at First Run/Icarus Films and Film Forum. Claus Mueller teaches media and policy analysis in the Graduate Social Research Program at Hunter College/CUNY and curates the annual NY Screening Days Conference. He covers European media events for The Independent and has written numerous articles and two books on international communication issues. He is the recipient of many awards, including two Fulbright's and election to the American Council on Germany. Liz Ogilvie, Chief Programmer for Docurama®, an independent DVD label dedicated exclusively to cutting-edge, critically-acclaimed documentary films. Previously, she managed the workshops and screening programs at DocuClub, a resource organization for documentary filmmakers in New York City. Prior to that, Ogilvie was Managing Editor of FILMMAKER where she supervised editorial and production departments and contributed to the magazine. A native of Scotland, she worked in both Edinburgh and London as a Commissioning & Managing Editor for an international publisher before being transferred stateside. Louise Spain, former Professor at La Guardia Community College/City University of New York, and Director of Media Services in the Library Media Resources Center, is the current President of the Board of Dance Films Association, Inc., which co-sponsors the annual Dance on Camera Festival at Lincoln Center. She is also editor of Dance on Camera: A Guide to Dance Films and Videos, published by Scarecrow Press in 1998. Andrea Traubner is a past President of NYFVC. Director of Marketing and Television at Filmakers Library, New York, she was formerly Director of Program Acquisitions at Thirteen/WNET in New York and President of Anagram International. She has consulted for the European Union's Marketplace on distribution and co-production at film and TV festivals. Philip Wilde has produced video and multimedia since 1970. He helped to start the Ithaca Video Project and the very successful Ithaca Video Festival in the 1970's. Phil produces broadcast video as well as Internet and multimedia projects throughout the world, concentrating in science, environmental, engineering, and social service issues. His current projects include avant-garde science films that aim to reach a very wide audience. Joseph Yranski is the Senior Film Librarian at the Donnell Media Center of the New York Public Library. He has programmed films throughout the United States including New York City's Film Forum Theater. A film archivist and researcher who has contributed on many film and video documentaries on early cinema and stars, including Theda Bara, Louise Brooks and Clara Bow. Alternate Members of the Board Crista Grauer works with mixed media to create cinematic-inspired constructions. She makes structures in box form and within them magic worlds unfold. She studied painting at Skidmore College, Parsons School of Design, and for a year in Florence, Italy. She went from painting to her motorized constructions after meeting filmmaker Beryl Sokoloff and has been involved in and stimulated by the art of film ever since. Elisabeth Halvarsson-Stapen, Cultural Affairs officer at the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, has organized programs of Swedish films nationwide since 1984. Robert Spencer is Director of Media Services for the Organization of Staff Analysts, a labor union, where he produces the union's website (http://www.osaunion.org) and video training courses. He produced and directed the Dupont Award-winning documentary about TV news, Six O'Clock & All's Well. He has taught film at Hunter College/CUNY. Honorary Members of the Board William Sloan has championed the work of independent film for over forty years, first at the NYPL Donnell Media Center and then at the Museum of Modern Art's Department of Film & Media. He presently continues to work with the Museum of Modern Art's Circulating Film and Video Library and curates MoMA's documentary film series. Bill has programmed the Council's annual ShortFest event and is a former NYFVC president. George
Stoney in a still-active, sixty-year career as a filmmaker, social
activist and educator, has been an influential and inspiring figure in
documentary and public access media. He teaches documentary production
and criticism at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, and has written, produced
and directed over 50 documentary programs. A recipient of the International
Documentary Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, among many others,
George is a former NYFVC president. |
